De trams bleven tot 21 Juli 1947 onder de ogen van de Nederlanders in Batavia rijden, zonder dat het overgebleven (niet gerepatrieerde en niet over leden) Nederlandse BVM-personeel het materiel of de terreinen mocht betreden. Het zou trouwens ook niet zo verstandig zijn geweest als een Nederlander voor 27 Juli 1947 zou hebben geprobeerd als passagier van de Tram Djakarta-Kota gebruik te maken. Stel dat hij wel met republikeins geld zou hebben kunnen betalen, dan zou het uitermate onverstandig zijn geweest om op de tram te stappen, want hij zou zijn leven toen beslist niet zeker zijn geweest. Dit nog afgezien van het feit date er bijna altijd sprake was van volgepropte tramrijtuigen. Nadat de nederlandse BVM-leiding het beheer had herkregen kwam meer material en geld beschikbaar om de lijnen en het materiel weer in redelijke staat te brengen. Het eerste tastbare resultaat van de vooruitgang werd op 15 oktober 1947 geboekt, toen een betere dienstregeling kon worden gepresenteerd.
