Op 15 April 1954 was het dan zover, aandelen dienden te zijn ingeleverd, waarna op 30 Juni 1954 een laatste aandeelhoudersvergadering werd gehouden. Het nieuwe genationaliseerde bedrijf, de Maskapai Pengangkutan Djakarta onder het ministrie van verbindingen werd een feit. Wel zou men een aantal nieuwe bussen aanschaffen, maar de tram zou, zeker in de buitenwijken, niet geheel verdwijnen. Het materieel zou in nieuwe kleuren, rood met creme worden geschilderd, kortom een nieuwe imago voor het Djakartaanse vervoerbedrijf stond geboren te worden. Al deze plannen werden werkelijkheid , alleen de naam van het sedert 1 Juli 1954 opererende bedrijf werd Perusahaan Pengangkutan Djakarta, PPD. De overgang werd in een plechtigheid met vele bewindslieden op Kramat officieel onder muzikale begeleiding voltrokken met vele vriendelijke woorden aan het adres van de oude BVM en vele fraaie toekomstverwachtingen voor de PPD.
